Day 1 –fly into Salt Lake City- and pick up supplies at Walmart; we drove a couple of hours and then found a Hampton Inn to cut down on Day 2 drive time.
DAY 2– Drive 6 hours to Gardiner, MT
- Idaho Falls, Idaho, is halfway
- rest stop 101 has Hell’s Half Acre for the weird volcanic rock
- Rexburg, Idaho’s Yellowstone Bear World – has over 70 bears and bear cubs
Day 3– Gardiner, MT – visit Lamar Valley with pizza at Miner’s in Cooke City
Day 4– Gardiner, MT- Mammoth Hot Springs, Tower Falls, Wraith Falls, Trout Lake hike, and Lamar Valley
Day 5 – Gardiner, MT – hike 2 miles of Slough Creek to McBride Lake
- Wild West rafting
- dinner at Iron Horse Bar & Grill
Day 6– Gardiner, MT- rest day (Tay tried to die, so we met the MD)
Day 7-Drive 4 hours to Cody, WY, overnight in the Hampton Inn, Old Town Trail, Cody Museums, Irma’s for dinner, Rodeo
Day 8– Enter the East Entrance & staying at Old Faithful Inn. We fished Lake Yellowstone at Gull Point Drive near the Marina.
Day 9– Old Faithful Inn- we started at the area around Old Faithful
- Midway Geyer Basin for the Grand Prismatic Springs
- The Grand Prismatic overlook at the entrance to Fairy Falls trail is the best view.
- Other stops: Artist Paint Pots, Porcelain Basin, Fountain Paint Pots
- Observation Point trail from Old Faithful visitor parking lot – 1.9miles
- visit the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center
- Dinner in West Yellowstone at the Wild West Pizzeria
Day 10– drove the lower loop and fished Lake Yellowstone, Hayden Valley, Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, Dinner reservations at Old Faithful Inn
- West Thumb Geyer Basin– about half a mile of boardwalk, an hour’s visit
- We fished and then hiked Pelican Creek Nature Trail and Storm Point.
- MUD Volcano was a 30-minute stop
- Hayden Valley was crowded, so we just drove through
- Grand Canyon took an hour, stopping at Artist Point, Grand View, and Inspiration Point
- Mt. Washburn was covered in snow, so we dove up for the snow
Day 11– Drive the 2.5 hours to Jackson, WY, overnight at the Rockwell Inn
- stop at Jackson Lake Lodge for the view and huckleberry milkshakes,
- Jenny Lake hike (pay to ride the boat across, then hike back),
- look at String Lake (might hike around the lake)
- visit the Wildlife Museum
- Explore Jackson at night
Day 12– Jackson Hole, WY- Mormon Row early
- hike Taggart Lake or fish at Jackson Lake
- explore Jackson
- Dinner with Bar T 5 for a covered wagon ride experience
Day 13– 5-hour drive to Salt Lake City
Day 14– airport to catch a flight
